Bill's Musical Bus Trip

don't forget to sign our guest book

I can't remember the last time I was excited about a bus trip, but there we were in Bill Bekric's front garden all eager to set out on our adventure. Some hadn't slept much, it seemed I wasn't the only one to be looking forward to it!

We had a short stop at Sutherland to pick up another heap of people, (swelling our number to 28), and they quickly joined in with the music. Then it was off to Sublime Point for soup and rolls and a cup of tea. After our break it was back on the bus for more singing before our next stop at the Nan Tien Temple. We had about an hour to wander through the peaceful Buddhist temples and grounds. The peace and tranquillity was palpable and it gave us a chance to rest our throats and fingers!! Then after a quick chorus of “We're all going on a summer holiday” on the steps (I have the video to prove it!!) and some group photos it was on to our final destination, at the Wongawilli Hall.

Under the light of a spectacular full moon we had a sausage sizzle, and a few drinks before the folk club started proper. Although they did start the club early, there were so many of us that unfortunately not everyone was able to get a floor spot, but those who did were wonderful. Bill did a fantastic set getting the whole hall singing along with him on the choruses. He even did a few of his own compositions which I hadn't heard before. He is an entertaining performer who obviously enjoys what he is doing, and that is most obvious in the happy smile on his face when he hears the volume and harmonies swell from his audience.

The second half of the night we were treated to some jazz, latin, and folk from Chris Wilson and “After five”, (I hope I got the names right). The arrangements were tight, Chris' voice was superb, and there was a lovely blend of musical styles.

Eventually we all climbed back onto the bus, and set off again, for home. The music didn't stop until we got back to Bill's front door.

We had a fantastic day. Bill had thought of everything. So a BIG thankyou to Bill and to all who helped him with food, drinks and organising, etc. What I'd like to know now is when are some other distant folk clubs going to book him, so we can have another trip. Personally I like the idea of Newcastle Folk Club via the Hunter Valley!! Or maybe Bathurst???????
