Ray's
Bus Trip Review

The
sun beat down on the big red bus as the first batch of passengers
boarded. It was 11.00am, location Fairfield, and Bill was trying
to find out who wasn't here yet. No one else showed so of we
headed for our second pick up spot, Sutherland.
The
annual Musical Bus Trip was well and truly on its way. A fine
rendition of "The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round" started
the singing off and I'm afraid it went down hill from there
(only kidding). The music continued non stop all the way to
Wongawilli Folk Club, (down somewhere near Wollongong).

On
the way we stopped at Sublime Point for a selection of hot soups
and fresh bread rolls. Then down to the Nien Tien Temple for
some quiet time, a chance for the vocal chords to recover.

all that fresh air & excitement
can get a bit much!!

meanwhile we decide what we're going
to sing.

We
arrived at the lovely little club house late afternoon and settled
in with a bit of singing (for something different) while the
versatile bus driver come cook set up the gas barbecues. With
the help of the hospitable locals, a beautiful spread was laid
out and we all feasted (some to excess) and then moved inside
for the main event.

"we can't sing that one, we don't
know the words".....
"well it doesn't usually stop us!!"

The
evening unfolded with both local and imported artists providing
a plethora of song and music. Time flew and before you could
say "Just one more verse", it was time to depart. All the intrepid
travelers sadly boarded the mighty chariot to hit the long and
winding road (sounds like a good title for a song) and headed
for home.

John & Ron (the Blues Brothers) do a
"spot" after some "gentle encouragement"!!
"I don't know who they are... but
they're not bad!!"

Many
thanks, again, must go to Bill for organizing such a wonderful
day. I know it must have been hard to drive while their was
so much going on up the back. The temptation to switch on the
automatic pilot and come up and join in must have been great.
I
think the whole day can be summed up in a small parody:
Didn't
we have a lovely time, the day we went to Wongawilli.
Beautiful day, we had lunch on the way (Sublime Point)
And all for twenty dollars you know.
On the way back the singing got slack
And we opened a bottle of Cascade Premium
Singing a few of our favorite songs as the wheels went round.
